The keynote speakers at ICTAS20217 were Prof Bhavsar and Prof JP van Belle. Dr van
Niekerk gave a plenary session on cyber-security.
Prof Bhavsar, now retired, was Dean 2003-08 of the Faculty of Computer Science, University
of New Brunswick (UNB). Porf Bhavsar spoke about Convergence of Internet of Things,
Big Data, and High Performance Computing: Challenges and Opportunities.
Prof Jean-Paul Van Belle is a professor in the Department of Information Systems
at the University of Cape Town and Director of the Centre for IT and National Development.
His keynote address was titled Emerging Technologies and Emerging Economies: Research
Directions for Researchers in Africa.
There were 55 submissions. Each submission was double blind peer reviewed by at least
2 program committee members. The committee accepted 30 papers and 25 were presented
at ICTAS2017. All were subsequently published on IEEE Xplore.
