ICTAS2022

The sixth edition of the annual international conference on Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Society (ICTAS 2022) was held virtually on March 9-10 of 2022 in Durban, South Africa. The ICTAS2022 virtual conference featured four distinguished keynote speakers. The first keynote address, a hot topic entitled “Explainable artificial intelligence: The road to artificial intelligence you can trust”, was authored by Professor Dr. Halina Kwaśnicka of Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in Poland. The second address was authored by Professor Fausto Giunchiglia of the University of Trento in Italy, entitled “Diversity, bias, online social relations and related issues”. The third address, “Connecting the internal combustion engine” was authored by Professor Carlos Guardiola of Universitat Politècnica de València in Spain. Finally, the address “Quantum technology and the 4th industrial revolution” was authored by Professor Francesco Petruccione of the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa.

Only FULL papers were accepted for this conference. All papers were double-blind peer reviewed by an international panel of experts in the field of ICT, listed in the conference proceedings. There were 36 submissions. Each submission was reviewed by on the average 2.2 program committee members. The international committee of experts in the field accepted 17 papers, while 16 papers were presented at the conference.

An informative panel discussion on Cyber exercises and competitions for capacity development was held on the 2nd day which was moderated by Dr Brett van Niekerk, Senior Lecturer Durban University of Technology and Chair IFIP Working Group on ICT Uses in Peace and War. Panel members were Ms Anastasiya Kazakova, Senior Manager Public Affairs at Kaspersky, Dr Renier van Heerden, SANReN Cybersecurity Manager, Ms Noelle van der Waag-Cowling, Cyber Lead at SIGLA and Dr Trishana Ramluckan, Research Manager at Educor and Honorary Researcher at UKZN School of Law.
